The Tibetan Gao certainly represents the most interesting of Nepalese Tibetan jewels and articles, in particular this one which has ancient Tibetan turquoise is a very powerful talisman.
It is in fact an amulet, its peculiarity is that it can be opened and closed to preserve and guard precious objects.
The Tibetan Gao is a casket-pendant used by Tibetans since ancient times, but it is also worn in Nepal and Mongolia, here too mostly used by nomads for the convenience of carrying small sacred objects with them.
The material with which it is built is Silver with representative engravings such as the Om, the Eyes of the Buddha and precious stones set in the frame.
Small prayer rolls were usually kept inside the Gao with transcribed Mantras, photographs of the Dalai Lama or sacred representations, often in Italy and Europe small personal objects or lucky charms are also inserted.
There is no certain date of the invention of this beautiful Tibetan article, we believe it is "always" and in their Nepalese tradition and culture.
When China occupied Tibet in 1957, it made this pendant illegal (as well as all sacred images and references to HH Dalai Lama), so they were seized by the Chinese authorities.
Fortunately, the Tibetans still keep the ancient sacred objects that were inside them, delivering the empty envelope.
The oldest Gao are kept today in museums and exhibitions, they have become extremely rare pieces with great sentimental and economic value.
