Tārā, whose name means "Star", known in Tibetan as Dölma (sGrol-ma) or Jetsun Dölma, is a transcendent female Bodhisattva of Tibetan Buddhism. She represents compassionate activity and knowledge of the inherent emptiness of all dualism.
She is often referred to as the "Mother of all Buddhas", as she represents both the compassion and wisdom of all Buddhas.
Tara is invoked with the mantra: “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha” and is the patron goddess of Tibet.
There are many forms of Tara. The Tibetans speak of 21 main forms. Each has various colors, attributes and qualities. The most famous are Green Tara, who has the main function of protecting from dangers, and White Tara, prayed above all for a long life. There are many other less popular ones, such as Red Tara (linked in some way to attraction), Black Tara (destroyer of negativity) or Yellow Tara (bringer of prosperity).
Green Tara (Sanskrit: Syamatara; Tibetan: Sgrol-ljang) is believed to have incarnated in the Nepalese princess. She became Green Tara when she descended into the world of manifestation. She appears as a young and playful girl, while Tara Bianca is represented as a mature and wise woman. Green Tara is the kindest and most sincere manifestation of Tara. She guides us in our ascent to enlightenment. Tara belongs to the Karma family, symbolized by her green color and is the wise counterpart of the Transcendent Buddha Amogasiddhi. She is depicted sitting on a lotus flower with her left foot placed over her right thigh and her right leg stretched forward. Her left hand is placed in front of her heart with the palm facing outward, the thumb of the hand and the ring finger touch, and her other three fingers are pointed upwards, thus realizing the mudra. that offers protection. Her right hand rests on her right knee, realizing the mudra of generosity.
"Green Tara" symbolizes a particular aspect of compassion, the active and energetic one for overcoming difficulties. It protects against all dangers, while the various subspecies specialize in protecting against individual dangers.
