Brahma represents "the Creator", the god who creates the universe.
During the fifth century AD Brahma therefore acquires that role which in Brahamanism was reserved to Prajapati (the Cosmic Priest), but unlike the latter Brahma is not a supreme divinity, but a divinity in the service of other divinities.
In particular, according to Hindu mythology, Brahma breaks the shell and emerges from the Cosmic Egg, creating the celestial world in the upper part of the egg, the Earth in the lower part and the ether in the lower part.
With the creation of the universe Brahma generates the Devas, the stars, the planets, the Earth and humanity.
In temples it is often depicted with four heads and four arms.
