The three aspects of the Goddess

The faithful to the Wiccan religion and other neopagan currents believe that long before the spread of the monotheistic religions, the triple Goddess embody the three aspects of the Mother Goddess (or Mother Nature, or the Great Goddess), often mistakenly identified with Gaia, the Mother Earth (the Roman Magna Mater).

The three aspects of the Goddess are the young, pure and representation of the new beginning; Mother, generating life, helpful and compassionate; and the Old Wise, representing the culmination of life in the total knowledge and experience. These aspects represent the cycle of life: birth, life and death, that reproduce indefinitely in a continuous circle.

In some neo-pagan religions that have incorporated the concept of the triple Goddess often the three roles are assigned to various goddesses.

Young is the birth, the future development, the charm, the feminine principle. Dee identified in this aspect can be: Brigid, Nimue, Durga, Verdandi, and others.

Representative fertility, balance, power, mercy. It can be identified with: Aa, Ambika, Ceres, Astarte, Lakshmi, Urd, and others.

Representative wisdom, rest and compassion can be identified with Hel, Maman Brigitte, Oya Yansa, Skuld, Sedna, Kali, and other.
