Ankh in 925‰ silver, 39x15mm, 3.7g. Ancient Egyptian symbol of life, balance and protection
Ankh – the Egyptian symbol of life and rebirth
The Ankh, also known as the Egyptian cross or the key of life, is an ancient pagan symbol representing life, immortality, and rebirth. Later, it was adopted by the Coptic Christians, who transformed it into their ankh cross, a symbol of hope and resurrection.
Its meaning goes beyond religion: the Ankh is associated with the union of opposites and the creation of life. Its shape consists of a circle, representing infinity and the cycles of life, and a T-shaped cross, symbolising the union of male and female, energy and receptivity, heaven and earth.
Many scholars link the Ankh to the gods Osiris and Isis, considered the male and female in Egyptian tradition. The symbol also represented water in purification rituals, and its shape was imitated in ritual objects such as mirrors and amulets.
Today, the Ankh remains one of the most popular symbols for jewellery and tattoos, appreciated for its mystical meaning and universal beauty. It is a symbol of protection, vital energy, and spiritual connection, continuing to inspire those seeking harmony and balance in life.
