La Piedra del Sol ("Stone of the Sun"), is an Aztec monolith preserved in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. Also known as "Tenochtitlan stone", it has a circular shape, measures about 3.60 meters in diameter and weighs 25 tons. It was found on December 17, 1790 on the south side in the main square of Mexico City (Zocalo), near the National Palace. Previously, on July 13 of the same year, another monolith was unearthed, the Coatlicue Maxima, dedicated to the deity of the Earth.
